What can go wrong with breasts?
Aging takes a toll on our body as it undergoes various changes externally and internally. As women age and approach menopause, they experience hormonal changes while the body muscles tend to become loose that can nor only change the breast shape but also make it sag or droop. It can even happen after pregnancy or due to genetics. The muscles lose their elasticity that makes the breasts look saggy, deflated, and drooping. Women with bigger breasts may face a different problem due to the heavyweight that pulls down the breasts and causing back pain or discomfort.
What is a breast lift?
Breast lift is a Cosmetic surgery procedure that addresses the issues of sagging and drooping breasts and correcting the weight and shape for heavy breasts. The procedure consists of removing superfluous and unwanted skin from the breast tissue and repositioning the nipple. This enables the breasts to sithigher on your chest with a more shapely appearance. Also known as mastopexy, the breast lift procedure involves working with your natural breasts without implants that help maintain the natural looks and feel completely natural.
Types of breast lift procedures
Donut or Peri-Areolar lift – The Donut lift, as it is popularly known, is used along with breast augmentation to correct some mild sagging. This procedure can reduce the size of the areola that facilitates in shrinking the appearance. The Cosmetic surgeon does a single incision at the edge of the areola full circle from which the procedure gets its name.
Crescent lift – This procedure is not so common for breast lift surgery but is useful if the patient is undergoing breast augmentation. It requires making a small crescent moon type incision around the top of the areola, and the procedure is effective for correcting minor sagging.
Lollipop or vertical lift – This is the most used procedure for breast lift because it causes the least scarring hence the most popular. Earlier, breast lift procedures involved making an anchor-shaped incision below the breast’s crease that would leave a long scar mark that many patients disliked. The lollipop technique helped to do away with the long incision and minimized the scar. The lollipop technique involves making two small incisions, one extending vertically between the bottom of the breast and the bottom of the nipple. Besides reducing scar, the technique gives better shape to the breasts.
Anchor lift or inverted T lift – This procedure addresses extensive heaviness and sagging, requiring some reshaping. It is suitable for women undergoing breast reduction surgery.
On average, the surgical procedure can take up to 2 hours, and a week is the recovery time.
